Coach Station

2014

This place of arrival and departure in the middle of the busy city is characterized by change: people come and go, say goodbye and hello to their friends and family, coaches bring back travelers form their holidays or take them there. But not only people and coaches seem to be exposed to constant change at this place, also ticket booths and waiting shelters change their position or are even only build as temporary structures.

The roof on four pillars is giving lastingness to this place, which it has been lacking for years now. A roof that protects arriving and departing passengers and also offers a place for the inhabitants of the city to rest - an oasis of calm and tranquility at a place, that was the opposite till now, a place that one didn‘t care to remember after leaving.

Underneath the roof between the four pillars, which relate to human proportions despite their size, 15 coaches are aligned on 15 parking spots. Behind it a surface of asphalt, organized by the covers of the squares drainage, offers space for the coaches to switch. Below the cantilever at the interface between city and parking the serving elements are assembled: a spiral stair made of steel, an elevator coated with stainless steel, toilets and ticket vending machines. The composition elements - starting with the carrying structure of the roof, going on to the the objects of transport like stairs and elevators to the urban furniture like ticket vending machine, trash cans and bicycle racks - are hierarchically arranged by their position, dimension and choice of material.
